Priyanka Chopra (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) is the name that does not need any introduction in public. She is one of the successful actress in Bollywood today, and has also marked her presence on the international screen (Hollywood) with her hard work, dedication and continuous focus on improving herself. But her journey from being a national to international sensation was not easy. Priyanka Chopra’s Early Age and Background

Chopra was born on 18 July 1982 in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, to Mr. Ashok and Ms. Madhu Chopra, both were physicians in the Indian Army. Her father was a Punjabi from Ambala and her mother is from Jharkhand. Her younger brother Siddharth and Parineeti Chopra is her cousin sister, who is also a Bollywood actress.

Her parents were in a transferable job, and this gave her an opportunity to travel to different parts of India including Delhi, Chandigarh, Lucknow Pune etc. Because of the travelling job of her parent priyanka chopra attended 10 different schools including La Martiniere Girls’ School in Lucknow and St. Maria Goretti College in Bareilly.

At age 13, she moved to the USA with her aunt and attended schools in Newton, Massachusetts, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, living in Massachusetts, where she participated in several theatre productions and studied Western classical music. she lived there for three years before returning to India.

In an interview published in the media, Chopra said that she did not mind travelling regularly and changing schools, she looked into it as a new experience and a way to discover India’s multicultural society. She was called by the name SunShine during her school days, and her nick name was MiMi. She wanted to become a software engineer or a criminal physiologist during her study time.

Chopra’s Won Several Beauty Peagents, Padam Shri and Several Others

Priyanka Chopra won several beauty peagent awards, the local May Queen beauty pageant, while in high school she won the Miss India World pageant in 2000, runner up Femina Miss India World Title. Her next milestone was when she won the Miss World pageant, where she was crowned Miss World 2000 and  Miss World Continental Queen of Beauty Asia & Oceania on 30 November 2000.

Priyanka Chopra was the fifth Indian contestant to win the Miss World Title. These awards gave immense recognition to Chopra and from here onwards she started getting offers for Bollywood. She also received an Academy Award nomination for her role in “The edge of Seventeen”.

After winning the miss world 2000, chopra got break in many Bollywood films, but her screen debut occurred in the 2002,  Tamil film Thamizhan. She has done many films with known celebrities and super stars, like Amitabh Bacchan, Salman Khan, Hritik Roshan, Shah Ruk Khan, Sunny Deol, Akshay Kumar etc.

She has acted in many films with few to be mentioned – The Hero: Love Story of a Spy, Andaaz, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Aitraaz,  Waqt: The Race Against Time and many more. She won a filmfare award for best performance in a negative role for her film Aitraaz, and with this she became the second and final actress to win the award after Kajol, as this category was discontinued in 2008.

Except for a few of the big films, most of her films have not performed well at the box office, her film faces many criticism and is commercially unsuccessful. There was a time when she was only recognized as a glamour quotient for the films. This was not acceptable to her, therefore she thought to do some experiment with unconventional roles from 2009 till 2011.

She played various roles to prove herself, including a Marathi lady in the film kaminey, opposite shahid kapoor, this film was successful and she received awards, nominations and accolades from various media houses.

She also played the role of a supermodel in the film Fashion, the role earned her several awards and nominations, including the National Filmfare Award.

In an interview with a popular fashion magazine, Priyanka said she didn’t have any godfathers in the Bollywood industry, she faced many challenges, bad behavior from the directors, she was thrown into movies and she was thrown out of movies. But during this struggling period, what helped her get through the tough days were the wise words of her father, Dr. Ashok Chopra.

She lost her father in June 2013. In her biography ‘Priyanka Chopra: A Dark Horse’ published in 2018, she reveals the pain she had to face with her initial projects when a cosmetic surgery of nose went wrong.

Priyanka Chopra- Success Period and Expansion into the Hollywood Industry

Priyanka Chopra’s move to Hollywood was a surprise for all. she ventured into Hollywood with roles in films like “Baywatch” and television shows like “Quantico”.

She then next starred alongside Richard Madden in Amazon Prime Video‘s action thriller series Citadel (2023). For this show, she received equal pay with her male co-star.
